Production of the Land Rover Series I began in Solihull in 1948. Series II and III followed, and Series III was succeeded in 1983 by the Land Rover One Ten (the 'One Ten' referred to the wheelbase – 110 inches). This was joined a year later by the Land Rover Ninety – with a 90–inch wheelbase. In 1989, when the Discovery was introduced, the Ninety and One Ten were rebranded as the Defender 90 and the Defender 110; in the following year, the numeric distinction was dropped and the model simply became the Land Rover Defender.
In October 2013, Land Rover announced that production of the Defender would end in December 2015 after a continuous run of 67 years. Production finally ended on 29 January 2016 when the last Defender, H166 HUE, rolled off the production line at 09:22.
